Daily Bitcoin Drama: alleged brother of alleged inventor of Bitcoin writes an incoherent rant, leaves everyone confused and doubting; MtGox financial data published by hackers yesterday contained malware.
For those not following the juiciest kind of drama we are seeing recently: four days ago newsweek published an article claiming to have found the elusive Bitcoin inventor that went by a pseudonym "Satoshi Nakamoto", and it is a 40 years old US-based software engineer retired after suffering a stroke, named Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto (GASP). Naturally, /bitcoin exploded. SRD thread. Then the alleged brother of the alleged inventor wrote an open letter to the bitcoin community. SRD thread. Finally, today he wrote a second letter and nobody can figure what he's going about. "I'm pretty sure we're reading the ramblings of a paranoid schizophrenic here, and not a real member of the Nakamoto family. His writing makes zero sense to me." and accusations of being a fraud abound. Check out the full thread, all top comments are confused at the moment. There's also a rising post asking the mods to step in and do something. The second course is a followup from the yesterday's events, when some hackers dumped a database with accounting data stolen from MtGox servers, which caused many people to claim that since MtGox still lists all its stolen funds in its internal ledger then the funds must still belong to them. Naturally the original post was removed (because the stuff was illegally obtained), so here's the second post with bonus censorship drama. I can only find this SRD thread about it. Now n extremely surprising news today, a user discovered that the accounting utility included in the dump released by the hackers contained a trojan that stole people's wallets. Inconceivable! Not much drama, mostly people wondering how gullible some users are, but it wouldn't be reddit without two witchhunt threads: 1, 2. PS: should I np the links to SRD?
