What Is Bitcoin, and How Does it Work?
Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet
A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.
A subreddit for those serious about bitcoin! Less crazy, more awesome! Analysis welcomed/encouraged. We will try to keep the circle jerking to a minimum. Blogspam (etc) will probably be removed, but that's at mod discretion; since it's obviously a grey area. mod logs are public: https://modlog.github.io/#/BitcoinSerious
New to Bitcoin? Confused? Need help? You've come to the right place.
Bitcoin is an internet based decentralised currency. Similarly to Bittorrent, but Bitcoin uses a public ledger called the blockchain to record who has sent and received money. It's very new, and for many very confusing. BitcoinHelp aims to rectify this. Whether it be explaining how it works, how to use it, how to buy Bitcoins, how to integrate Bitcoins into your business. Sharing your successes as well as failures in order to help others is also gladly received. Ask away!
I google “what is bitcoin” it said it’s a computer program file Now, some people say it’s gonna finish till 2022 So if it’s a computer program file how can it finish as it can be duplicated many times. And if it’s a computer program file. Why people are mining it

"So what exactly is bitcoin?" - #1 question still being asked at CES 2014.
If you think it's too late to get into bitcoin, then think again. There are 3 bitcoin companies sharing a 20x20 space at CES. That's it. I'm here representing Blockchain.info, and most of the conversations I had today were with people who had little to no clue about bitcoin. This at one of the biggest tech shows in the world. We're still in the early days.
What exactly is Bitcoin, and how does it work? It kind of seems like a scam to me, but I’m probably wrong
I am very ignorant on this Bitcoin stuff, and apparently there are miners or whatever and a limited amount of Bitcoin and something about a “block chain??” Also, I heard about exchanges to buy bitcoins from. How can we trust these ‘exchanges’, and where do the exchanges get the Bitcoin from in the first place? Also, what is BTC and BCH or whatever? If someone could explain everything to me and about how Bitcoin works, that’d be wonderful. Thanks!
What exactly is bitcoin? And could one still invest as little as 1000?
Have no idea what it is , just know it's some kind of money's? *edit. I guess, would you still try and invest ? Pros and con 2nd edit, I think I'm going to just start with 100 and put money in it when I can afford it, and hope it goes up
OK so as far as I know bitcoin does not need a payment gateway and is directly user to user. The question here is that if bitcoin can be mined by freewares then wont it cause an economic disbalance if people just kinda keep creating money for free? how did bitcoin even get its value? Please somebody throw light on this topic.
ELI5: What exactly is Bitcoin or cryptocurrency technology actually disrupting?
I find the technology and math behind Bitcoin to be truly remarkable. However, I have yet to find or read about an application of this technology that is actually disruptive. Currency & Payments - For a consumer, bitcoin appears to be an inferior product for payments compared to current VISA, Mastercard, and AMEX. A consumer gets buyer protection, insurance, and many other perks when using their credit card today. It's also accepted nearly universally including internationally. - For merchants, credit card fees and charge back problems are real. However, these amount to around 3%. A bitcoin service that dropped this to even 0.25% is still not providing a large enough disruption. A larger disruption may allow savings to be passed onto consumers and therefore providing consumers with an incentive to utilize bitcoin. However, the scale of savings is just not there. Blockchain technology. - This appears to be the most promising application of cyptocurrency. However, I personally have yet to read about an actual implementation that is disruptive. This may change in the future but considering the speed of innovation in other technologies, it's not unfair to have expected something tangible at this point. I attended the TNABC in Chicago this weekend solely based on my curiosity and the expectation that I'm just missing something. However, I wasn't able to find an answer. Maybe reddit can help. Edit: Thank you everyone for your thoughts and posts. I'm the type of person who learns through debate. I took the time to attend the TNABC and spend time reading and consuming information on Bitcoin because I believe there is something I'm missing or not understanding. However where I sit right now, I just don't see the world changing potential bloggers and other loves to express about bitcoin. It appears that bitcoin is a technology innovation with a passionate community that is now trying to push it into any hole that even reasonably appears to fit. TCP/IP and the other internet protocols are not the best technology available, but it's what we use. The innovations in that space so far do not have the 10X type leap required to demand adoption. I'm going to reply to the comments and look forward to learning more. Please view and read my comments as healthy debate. Its personally how I learn and challenge my own views. I also hope others jump in and express their views more.
