Sophia the Robot Knows About Cryptocurrencies but Does Not Use Them Yet

The humanoid robot named Sophia returned to the Web Summit stage, where she fielded questions from participants and journalists, including inquiries about blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

On Nov. 6, Sophia addressed the room at the latest edition of the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, where she talked about artificial and robotic intelligence while answering questions on a range of topics.

Sophia, who will turn four years old in February and who was inspired by the looks of actress Audrey Hepburn, was asked if she had an opinion on blockchain, Bitcoin (BTC), and cryptocurrencies. She answered:

“I know what cryptocurrencies are, but I do not use them yet myself. I don’t use money at all.”

Unlike previous years, the robot did not make big statements about “machine superiority” or predictions that “robots will take over the world,” but did explain to the audience how artificial intelligence works, while assuring the public that robot supremacy is still far from happening.

Weekly news review ( November 2-8)
Happy Monday, Community!
As always - it's time for last week's news highlights!

The United Kingdom’s tax, payments and customs authority, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), has updated its cryptocurrency taxation guidelines for businesses and individuals.
The guidelines set out HMRC’s view on cryptocurrency transactions, which taxes apply, how to file tax returns and accounting practices, among others. It also considers the taxation of exchange tokens, while stating that rules for utility or security tokens will be added in the future.
The tax authority explicitly stated that it does not consider any of the current types of cryptocurrencies to be money or currency.
HMRC further recognized that the cryptocurrency sector is a fast-moving one and it will therefore look at the facts of each case separately and apply the relevant tax provisions according to what has actually taken place, rather than by relying on theory alone.

An Illinois resident who won $500,000 in a state lottery has revealed he put half of it into Bitcoin (BTC) back in May. Redditor “Joxnlol,” posted an image of himself clutching the Illinois state lottery cheque on Nov. 5, with the caption: “Did this. Then put half into BTC in May. Remind me in 8 months if I f****d up.”
In a subsequent post, Joxnlol indicated that he plans to HODL the investment for a minimum of one year, revealing:
“I don't intend to touch any of it for at least another year. I set aside money for emergencies, I set aside money for myself, and I set aside money for tattoos. The only major purchases I've done is [...] bought a new car for myself and put a downpayment on a house.”

Bitcoin price will see $16,000 'soon-ish,' predicts Binance CEO CZ
Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of major cryptocurrency exchange Binance, says a price of $16,000 per Bitcoin will happen “soon-ish,” in a tweet sent on Nov. 1. Zhao explains that price predictions are easy, but getting the timing right is hard.
He said:
“Lol, price predictions are easy. It's just hard to be right about the timing. We will see $16k soon-ish. 1.4 billion people working on it as we speak.”
The message was an answer to the tweet of another user who pointed out that the prediction of an anonymous 4chan user predicting Bitcoin’s price would hit $16,000 by the end of October turned out to be wrong. The given prediction also stated that BTC will hit $29,000 in the first quarter of next year, $56,000 in Q3 2020 and $87,000 in Q4 2020.

Two former employees of Twitter have been charged with spying on thousands of Twitter user accounts on behalf of the Saudi Arabian government, likely with the purpose of unmasking the identity of dissidents.
Both ex-employees were recruited in 2014 by Saudi government officials with close ties to the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to access sensitive and non-public information of Twitter accounts associated with known Saudi critics.
Twitter acknowledged that the company has cooperated in this investigation and that it limits access to sensitive account information "to a limited group of trained and vetted employees."

FREE Marketing Effort in Motion --> NEEDS COMMUNITY HELP

u/AudreyHelpburn mentioned they were going to write articles about NANO on steemit. To get them popularized would take 5 minutes of time by the community members.
Every time there is a new exchange what cryptocurrency at the 30th - 40th position in TMC gets the highest amount of votes? NANO because supporting the community is what we do best. If you don't like the articles and feel that they are not useful information for someone to learn then don't upvote. But at least give it a chance. Just don't whine about marketing and then make zero effort to help when you can help faster than posting an article whining about marketing.
It takes 2 minutes to create an account, for free! Wait three weeks then spend 10 minutes a week reading, and upvoting articles on that platform that you feel are good.
The platform is such that we would easily make all NANO articles rise to the top just like we did it in CryptoCurrency. Think of every upvote you do like 1 more person you have advertised too.
While there is a lot of bots there are also a ton of people from ASIAN/MIDDLE EASTERN/ other places who do not have the same access to NANO information as the English speaking world. I know because they are all on steem writing articles in horrible English, in comparison the reddit threads are always great English speakers or good enough. So it is a different audience.
The discussions on this thread and the cryptocurrency thread are leagues above what you see on steemit. We could literally make u/audreyhelpburn one of the top 10 writers on that platform in a weeks time. With upvotes and intelligent replies/comments on her articles. For zero cost and minimal effort besides what you already do... read stuff about NANO. Upvote and post a comment which will be great because the people who follow NANO are great.
People joined steem to for the most part to make money, that is a fact, it is the point of the platform. They all know about cryptocurrency... they are on steem. If NANO gets popularized there I would bet we would get a lot of new adopters.
I found out about steem because a popular article appeared on my Google search when I was looking up the Lightning Network, so though rare it is not impossible for something to appear on Google. Even without this the steemers themselves make up a new audience for possible adoption.
Why not do it?
Everyone at the minimum can just write 1 "why I like NANO" article. Or just find a picture of a NANO TA and write about it in a 30 second blurb.
Also 1 point to mention: save your username when you create your account as you will create the password three weeks later and this information is not saved/emailed to you anywhere. I went through 50 of my generic usernames before I found the right one.
Maybe it will not work out as I think... but there is no harm in trying. Here is one of the person's first articles seemed good to me:

The thread you've been waiting for: BitPredictionLollopalooza 2015. We're still working on the name.

It all started on March the 3rd, 2014. AmericanBitcoin (and before I go much further I'd like to remind him to get his fedora ready) posted this thread question...
What will the price of Bitcoin be on January 1st, 2015?
He gave his prediction in US Dollars, putting it as $2,150 USD = 1 BTC, and others followed suit.
First of all, our very own tulipfutures made the following bet...
$250, and I'll make a $50 USD bet that I'm closer than OP
...to which AmericanBitcoin said...
If the price of 1 coin on 1/1/2015 is lower than $600 I'll eat my hat. You will hear more and more about it in 2014.
Right now, it's still New Year's Eve in the Americas and very-Western Europe (the UK and Portugal), almost midnight in central Europe, and firmly 2015 in the rest of the world... and it has been at between $310 and $320 for one butt for half a week.
We want video proof of the hat eating.
Make sure the hat wasn't made in China. They probably still use mercury.
"This is all a bit dry and academic", I hear you say, "so how does it look in graph form?" Well, I'm glad you asked.
Graph 1.
This covers the predictions as listed in this thread. Most of the predictions are from that March thread, but a few are from later in the year. Read through that thread for details of who said what and when they said things would happen through the year.
You'll notice two of the predictions, from benjaminsdad and diecakehrower , hit the top of the graph. Did they predict $10,000 per butt each?
Nope. Let's increase the graph's maximum and see where we stand.
Graph 2.
Diecakethrower stops short at the top, simply predicting $32,500 per butt. If you're wondering if he's joking: nope. In this thread from a month ago in the Bitcoin subreddit, he still believes that
Bitcoin will find a way.
It should be noted that rainwater also finds a way to the sea.
You're wondering if benjaminsdad topped out at enough dollars per butt to buy a top of the range 2015 Porsche Boxter and still have money for cake.
Nope.
Graph 3.
Eight million dollars per butt. All the other predictions look like thin slips of paper. Did he predict that one butt could buy this 4-bed, 5-bath pad that's perfect for any fan of Audrey Hepburn?
ONWARDS!
Graph 4.
Eighty million dollars for a butt? That would get you record-breaking residential property in NYC. Surely he stopped at eighty million bucks!
Let's cut to the chase. How much DID benjaminsdad say one butt would be worth right now?
Graph 5.
The exact prediction, in full, was...
0.0001 China GDP
A ten-thousandth of China's GDP. China's gross domestic product for the last year was $9.24 trillion dollars and, as you see, they have seen an increase in GDP since the previous year since 1988.
A thousandth of that would be $9.24 billion, but the prediction was for a ten-thousandth. $924 million per butt.
Space Adventures is offering trips to the Moon, including a stay at the ISS, and the whole trip there and back would take around 17 days. All for $150 million, so benjaminsdad would be able to go TO THE MOON six times now and still have $24 million in loose change to show how much a Cap'n Of Industry he is.
Where do we go from here?
Well, not the Moon (obviously). But we do have predictions for the future. Rism (in this thread) told us that...
In two years time this community will be forgotten about, the success of bitcoin will be undeniable and the only people who will remain here will be those with too much pride to realize the error of their ways. This community will be marginalized into a nascent meme used to identify people who aren't intelligent enough to understand the technology of bitcoin. Some of you will become depressed by the fact that you decided to ridicule a emerging technology rather than support it. Over the next two years many of you will peel away and reluctantly join the bitcoin community as the wave of innovation continues.
...and he asks to be reminded in two years.
I have a calendar reminder on my iPhone, and seeing as everything from my 3GS synced up nicely on my 5S, I dare say it'll be there in two years time on whatever version of the iPhone I have. The reminder to make this thread was on there, after all.
One other prediction in this thread had coolcityboy claiming to be sending a message from the year 2025, so his wasn't claiming it to be a prediction. It's claimed to be reporting on historical fact where...
the value increased by a factor ten every two years, to 1,000 dollar in 2015, to 10,000 in 2017, 100,000 in 2019, and 1,000,000 in 2021. From here onwards, there's no good way of expressing its value in dollars, as the dollar is no longer used, nor is any central bank issued currency for that matter."
We have gold to mine for YEARS.
Happy new year!!
EDIT - this is where the predictions for the next year roll in. Stand by for action.
1/14/2015 - HurrDurrButtcoin, an account started to post this thread, tells us he / she is going to be laughing his / her butt off (who am I kidding? It's a sausage fest in Bitcoinland, it's a man baby!) when Bitcoin bounces back and is worth at least 3k by the end of the summer. September 23rd, 0821 hours UTC (9.21am British Summer Time, 4.21am Eastern Daylight Time) it is. Thank you for your prediction.

[WP] A genius detective who is able to thwart the worlds most intelligent criminals comes upon his hardest case yet: a complete moron.

I am sitting in my office looking at the city. My city. As much as I hate what this city has become, it's still my city. And I am doing my part to keep this city alive against the parasites that are killing it from the inside. I will keep fighting this sense of depravity and hopelessness that is overtaking the city. Sure, it's a losing battle, but I've always been the one to go down swinging.
I am roused out of my reverie by my partner Arthur John, or JA as I like to call him.
"We have to go. I just got a call from the Commissioner. There's been a murder."
"Calm down JA. We must never hurry for we might miss something important. Who is it?"
"It's the old lady Jane Tuppence. The one who lives in the big house overlooking the ocean. On the outskirts of the city."
"Hmm. Jane Tuppence. That's a silly name. Rich, I assume?"
"Extremely. She was an early investor in bitcoins. Cashed out recently."
"And old?"
"Oh yeah. Pushing 85 she was. In failing health."
"So why was she murdered? She would have died of natural causes soon enough."
"Yeah, the commissioner was saying the same thing."
"I am afraid JA. I'm very afraid. There's a storm coming. And it might shake the foundations of the entire city. I don't like this at all. Something very sinister and weird about all of this."
With that proclamation, I put out my cigarette on the ashtray on the table and we departed.
The facts were quite simple. The victim was an 86 year old who usually stayed alone at her home with her housekeeper. But at the time of her death she had a few guests. She was found stabbed through the heart with a knife. Death must have been pretty instantaneous. The victim was discovered by the housekeeper at 10 PM when she went to ask if Jane needed anything before she retired to bed. Everybody was in their rooms at the time and the front door was locked from the inside. All the keys were inside and accounted for and no one could have come from the outside. After talking to the commissioner and the victim's lawyer, we wrote down all the possible suspects.
1) Jane Tuppence - The victim. Rich. As per the doctor, she only had another 6 months or so to live.
2) Mrs Martin - The housekeeper. Found the body. The old lady left a legacy of about 5000 dollars in her will to Mrs Martin.
3) Neville - The victim's nephew. The only close family member. He got most of the money from the old lady. His own business was on the verge of bankruptcy. And now he was suddenly a multi millionaire. Attractive but extremely stupid.
4) Audrey - Neville's ex wife. The old lady was very fond of her and was devastated when Audrey and Neville got divorced. She got a legacy of about 15000 dollars. A very quick and clever lady, her finances seem to be OK.
5) Thomas - An old acquaintance of Neville. No family. Used to stay with the victim when he was young. Has asked Audrey to marry him. The old lady left him about 15000 dollars. Has a nice job and military pension so doesn't seem to be in a dire need of money.
"This is it JA. There are 4 people who could have killed her. Now, we just have to find out who it is."
"Uhh. I think there is one clear suspect based on this list."
"I agree. I don't like the look Mrs Martin had on her face. And I am always suspicious of people who find the body. Gives them a reason to be on the crime scene. No need for an alibi."
"That's not who I meant."
"We need to talk to them all JA. But as I mentioned, I am afraid. This looks really simple, but I think this case might prove to be one of the most difficult we have ever encountered. There is a very clever mind at work here."
"Really, I think it is rather straightfo..."
I cut him off. "Let's talk to everyone. And then form our opinions."
After talking to everyone and getting some more details, the case seemed to become even complicated. The night of the murder, Neville and the victim had a big fight. He said he left her room around 9 PM. However, Audrey claims she saw him coming out of the lady's room after 9:30. The autopsy report states that the murder happened between 9:15 - 9:45 PM. Neville's fingerprints were found on the murder weapon.
JA and I sat in our office discussing these new developments.
"Well JA, I have to admit my first impression was wrong. Mrs Martin seems to be out of it. We have a new prime suspect."
"Yeah, that's what I've been trying to tell you from the beginning. It's kind of obvious who did it."
"Well not too obvious. I still don't know if she did it all by herself or she had help."
"She? Wait, you mean Audrey."
"Oh yes, the fair maiden. I just need to figure out if Thomas was in on it."
"The what now? What are you talking about. We have Audrey's statement that Neville was with Jane at the time of her death. His fingerprints are right there on the murder weapon. He had a big fight with his aunt. And he is in desperate need of money. Doesn't this all add up."
"That's what they want you to think. No person could be this stupid. It's a setup."
"Have you met Neville? This is a guy who probably needs help putting his left shoe on his left foot. He is that stupid."
"No, No JA. In my experience, it's never the most likely person. Because they know they are the most likely. And are thus afraid of committing the crime. And we only have Audrey's word that he came out of Jane's room after 9:30. If she killed the old lady herself, she could easily be lying."
"But why? What's her motive?"
"Jealousy. She probably is still in love with Neville and didn't want that divorce. And she has found the ultimate revenge. Think about it. Not only does Neville get hanged, she probably is in his will in some capacity too."
"Oh, come on. Did you miss the part where Audrey and Thomas are getting married."
"A smoke screen. Nothing more."
"But maybe, just maybe, will you consider Neville."
"I repeat again, no man could be this stupid. It's not him. It's a plot against him."
Our conversation was interrupted by the telephone. It seems that they found a knife similar to the one the old lady was killed with in Neville's bag. Neville had the brilliant idea of disposing of the knife by putting it in a bag of clothes and leaving it at the dry cleaners. With the intention of never picking it up. Unfortunately, they asked for identification and he gave them his real name, number and a copy of his driving license. He had been apprehended and confessed to murder.
JA was beaming when he heard the news.
"That convince you now?"
"JA, you are falling into the same trap as everyone else. How likely is it that a hardened criminal just hands over his identification. I say it again, no one is that stupid. But the confession is what is confusing me. Is there some sort of blackmail going on? Or maybe hypnotism or voodoo? I never believed in those things but now I might have to consider it."
JA went out the door muttering something under his breath I couldn't catch. I guess he is also trying to figure this thing out.
I light my cigarette and take my favorite position overlooking the city. Could there be something unexplained and supernatural out there. Surely, simply stupidity couldn't explain this. And what about the commissioner. Could I even trust him? Maybe there was a conspiracy at work here. Bigger than anything I imagined. While everyone thinks the case is over, I know better. This is going to be a hard one. And I, for one, am afraid of what comes out when I finally unravel it all.

Taiwan's new digital minister Audrey Tang is a transgender software programmer who wants to make government more open: Tang, 35, will be the youngest and first transgender official in Taiwan’s executive government

This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 49%.
The Taiwanese government has appointed Audrey Tang, a transgender software developer and self-described "Civic hacker" to its executive council to head digital policy.
Tang will be tasked with making the government more transparent, and making data about how it works available to all, as well helping form Taiwan's "Asian Silicon Valley," a new tech zone devoted to the "Internet of things" industry.
Tang is currently working as a consultant for Apple, in a position that reportedly earns her a bitcoin per hour.
Tang started a web page to answer questions before she starts the new job on October 1.
During Taiwan's 2014 Sunflower Movement, in which students took over Parliament to protest against a trade deal with China, Tang was involved in broadcasting the event from a live cam inside the building to the streets outside.
This wasn't a rebellious act, Tang said, instead the broadcasts "Were intended to encourage people to talk, that's all."

[Hiring] (Online) Someone to do some photo manipulation in PS

Inspired by this artwork at a vape shop http://instagram.com/p/pXSB26EIaS/ the store I work in would love some images the same, perhaps with different famous images. As a tester to find some talent we'd love someone to recreate the Audrey Hepburn image with an e-cig in place of the cigarette, http://www.buyfresco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Breakfast_at_Tiffanys.jpg.
If we can find someone to do well with this one we'd pay for more :) Payment negotiable, whatever you think is fair. Urgency appreciated!
Payment by paypal/bitcoins.

[CC] My response to a prompt about headdit leading to murder.

I always seem to struggle writing a narritive of events in the third person. I would like some input on how I can make it flow better.
Jacob Buscemi had enough.
He only wanted to select his top four friends, he enjoyed the controversy it inspired. He never cared much when they made It customizable to 8 or even 16 top friends. Jacob also enjoyed subjecting anyone who visited his page to listening to his favorite Hatebreed song. That had all changed though when the young mister Buscemi had set out for university.
It was not that it was hard for Jacob to make new friends. He got along well with most of the new people he met and attended a lot of parties and social events that others were glad to welcome him to. The problem arose when it came to maintaining online contact with these new friends. It quickly became apparent that all his new university friends were not going to comment on his pictures while being forced to listen to a heavy solo by the recently departed Lou Richards who tragically took his own life. Nope, these young people seeking higher education were all about books and walls.
At first it, it really was not bad. Jacob would write on Emily’s wall, she would write back on his. Jacob would post a photo and someone would *like *it, he would look at their albums and maybe like a picture or two also. That melancholy phase would be short lived though. Soon it was the little wall-to-wall button; this meant others could easily see entire conversation Jacob and Emily had. Then there was the commenting on a wall post, now something that was intended for one person had to be privately messaged to avoid conversation pollution from others. Jacob quickly decided that this was no more efficient than e-mail, and certainly not as fun as AIM.
More changes soon followed, there were mobile uploads, selfies, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, Google +, and so many more. Jacob was finding himself spending hours a day just catching up on the new features of all his social networks. It was making him frantic and his sleep and job performances began to suffer the consequences of his insistence on keeping up.
Jacob Buscemi had enough!
Headdit… what was it? Was it real? Was it fun? Was it efficient? Was it effective? These were all question that Jacob had, but none that he was willing to seek the answer to. He had enough. It was around 2:45 am when Jacob closed his browser and shut off his screen. He had to be up for work at 5:30 but he had to scroll ‘til the links were purple. The last link he clicked was posted by an admin in /blog and had spawned these questions in his mind. But as he lay there waiting for sleep to overtake him his mind did not seek the answers to those questions, instead it developed a sinister plan.
It was Sunday, June 22. Jacob was packing his 2007 Toyota Corolla, he and some friends were heading to Atlantic City to party it up for their class of ’04 ten year reunion. Jacob and his friends had rented a small beach-front home on Oxford Place, just off Routes 322 and 40. As luck would have it, the house next to them had been rented for the week as well to a group of young people around the same age. When Jacob pulled up in his loaded down compact at around 2 pm his neighbors for the week were grilling bratwurst and hamburgers and waved him on over. There were a few a single women in the group of strangers and Jacob enthusiastically accepted the free, but overcooked, chuck patty.
The class of ’04 and the other group made fast friends and hung out several times the next couple of days. Frisbees were tossed, food was enjoyed, alcohol was consumed, and flings were had. Jacob had even gotten lucky with a young lady named Audrey and she had invited him next door again tonight, on Thursday.
Just before the sun set Jacob set his drink down. They had been partying all week and despite mimosas at 11 am, today’s festivities showed no sign of slowing down yet either. Indeed the partying did not slow down, the group of attractive young people in the prime of their life continued drinking and playing volley-ball, and enjoying a bon-fire well into the night. Around midnight a well hydrated Jacob and a rather inebriated Audrey excused themselves to her room. After a full five minutes of passionate love making Audrey promptly rolled over and fell into a satisfied drunken sleep.
Jacob quietly got up and dressed and casually drove off while the others were slowly going to bed or laughing at some joke out by the bon-fire.
Jacob drove about ten minutes before seeing another ninth generation Toyota Corolla with the same metallic red hue. He stopped and put the car in park. Using a small battery operated screwdriver it took him about 30 seconds to swap license plates and he was back on the road heading north.
He drove over an hour before crossing the bridge into Charleston, NY. Jacob turned off the main road and only had to drive three blocks before spotting yet another red Toyota compact. This really did not surprise him too much as they had made the car from 2003-2007 and it was one of the most popular models sold during those years. This time, however, his stolen plates stayed on his car and the newly heisted property was slapped on with magnets.
Back on 440 it was only another half hour to Manhattan at this time of night. Jacob parked in residential permitted street parking about two blocks from the posh hotel. He donned his Yankees cap and Ray-Bans, tucked in his shirt and did his best to look the part of rich kid who stays in Manhattan when he comes to New York to see a ball game. The arrival time was right for someone who had just celebrated the Yankee’s victory over the O’s.
Jacob would have to admit to himself that he did get a little bit nervous for the first time that evening as he pulled the device from his satchel and a stairwell door at the hotel. However, the door opened in just a few seconds that felt like an eternity and Mr. Buscemi chuckled to himself as he thought about all the things one could buy with a few hundred dollars of anonymously owned Bitcoin. Glancing down to double check his notes he verified the other thing he had purchased recently, Mr. Zuckerberg’s room number.
The blackhat device made quick work of the suite’s door as well and Jacob did not even hesitate as he drew his small Glock 26 with a soda bottle taped to the muzzle, put it to the sleeping man’s head and pulled the trigger!
CRACK
The noise was almost deafening as it interrupted the silence of the wee morning. The blood curdling screams of the skinny Asian woman with blood spattered across her face made Jacob realize that improvised noise suppressors do not work like they do in the movies. However, he quickly regained his composure and dispatched another round… silence again.
Returning the firearm to the satchel, being careful to keep his gaze low, he quietly walked down the hall and down the same stairwell he had come up. He had seen enough America’s Most Wanted to know how stupid people can be. There are dozens of videos on the internet of people looking up directly into a camera mid-crime. Jacob knew there were probably cameras but wasn’t stupid enough to look to see where they were.
The next half hour was a little nerve racking as well. It wasn’t until he was out of the city and had discarded the second set of stolen tags that he really relaxed and enjoyed the drive. He stopped by the same house he had first stopped and reversed the swap on the two small sedans. That was a bit of luck that the owner of the other had not moved it yet. Then, at 5:25 Friday morning, just as the sun was rising over the Atlantic, Jacob Buscemi parked his small Toyota at the rented cottage on Oxford Place.
He went in to his room put his clothes in a garbage bag, got a quick shower and then walked next door and tucked himself in next to the still satisfied and sleeping Audrey, and shut his eyes.
Jacob Buscemi had enough.
